Serial Number Notes
AKERMAN-VME
All Models: the first digit indicates the year the unit was shipped for the 1960’ s. Example: serial numbers: 5-449-5364, the unit was shipped in 1965. For units shipped in the 1970’ s & 1980’ s the first two digits indicate the model. The last four digits indicate the date the unit was built. Example: serial number 14-2722-73038. 7 is the year( 1977) and 303 is the day of the year( March 30th). Crawler and wheel tractors prior to 1953 year of manufacture is determined by subtracting 4 from the first two digits of the serial number.
CATERPILLAR
Beginning in 2020 Cat has changed their method of identifying models. As each model is updated they will be dropping the suffix. You will need to call your dealer or Caterpillar directly with the information from the serial number plate of your machine, to identify the year of manufacture.
COMPAC
The first two digits of the serial number indicate the year of manufacture.
ALLIS CHALMERS FIAT ALLIS
Allis Chalmers-Fiat Allis: January 1971-1973: year of manufacture is determined by second and third digit of the serial number. January 1974- current: year of manufacture is determined by alphabetical code. First letter indicates the plant, second letter indicates the month and third is the year it was manufactured.
ALLMAND
All Products: the first four digits of the serial numbers indicates the year and the month of the equipment manufactured.
BADGER
Since 1990, the first two digits of the serial number indicate the year of manufacture.
BID-WELL
Serial numbers are formatted with the serial numbers first, followed by the year( YYYY) of manufacture-or- the day, month, and year of manufacture.
BITELLI
For 9-digit serial numbers, the fourth and fifth digits indicate the year of manufacture. For 8-digit serial numbers, the third and fourth digits indicate the year of manufacture. Contact Caterpillar for additional serial number information.
BUCKEYE
Beginning in 1995, the first two digits of the serial number indicate the year of manufacture.
CARLSON
For 9 digit serial numbers, the last two digits indicate the year of manufacture.
CORNIVER
The first and second numbers following the prefix indicate the year of manufacture.
CURBMASTER
The first two digits of the serial number indicate the year of manufacture.
DART
The first two digits of the serial number indicate the year of manufacture.
DITCH WITCH TRENCHERS The second character of the serial number indicates the year of manufacture.
ESSICK
Through 1953, the year of manufacture is indicated by the first two digits of the serial number. 1954 serial numbers start with the letter“ S”. 1955 serial numbers start with the letter“ T”. 1956 serial numbers start with the letter“ U”. Beginning with 1957, the year of manufacture is indicated by the first and third digits of the serial number.
GARFIELD
For six digit serial numbers, the first digit indicates the year of manufacture. Beginning in 2010, the first two digits indicate the year of manufacture for a ten-digit serial number.
GEHL EXCAVATORS If the serial number begins with an S prefix, the third and fourth digits indicate the year of manufacture.( Paving) the second character determines the year of manufacture according to the scheme listed under ALL MODELS.
